About Queensbury Shed

A friendly local workshop in the village. Open to anyone, free or low cost, and built by Queensbury people for Queensbury people.

What is a Shed?

The "Men's Sheds" idea started in Australia and has spread across the UK in the last twenty years. The short version: it's a workshop and a meeting place rolled into one. People drop in, make things, fix things, learn things, and (quietly important) talk to each other.

Queensbury Shed isn't men-only. Anyone who'd like to be part of it is welcome. The name is a nod to the movement, not a fence.

You can read more about the wider movement at the UK Men's Sheds Association, but we'd rather you came down and saw ours.

Wellbeing and community

Loneliness is bad for people in measurable ways: heart, mood, sleep, the lot. Having somewhere to go where people are pleased to see you isn't a luxury, it's a kind of medicine. We won't pretend a morning at the Shed cures everything, but it helps. Lots of our members will tell you so themselves.

You don't need to be retired, or a man, or skilled, or social. You can sit by yourself and have a brew. You can join in. You can come once a month or twice a week. It's your Shed.

Trustees and organisers

The people who keep the wheels on.

  • Alex Mordey

    Chairman & Trustee

Local business owner and employer, Alex has more than 22 years' experience managing people, finances, suppliers, compliance and the day to day challenges that come with running an organisation. These are the same disciplines that help keep a charitable organisation stable, well governed and financially sustainable. A Shed without strong management behind it is unlikely to succeed long term. As Chair of Queensbury Shed, Alex has led the search for suitable premises since the organisation was formed, bringing determination, practical leadership and a clear focus on creating a Shed built to last.

  • Stuart Walker

    Treasurer & Trustee

Former police officer with a wealth of experience in and around Queensbury. A member of the local antiquarian society, Stuart brings both structured financial oversight and deep roots in the local community to the board.

  • Philip Wallace

    Trustee

A Queensbury resident since the early 1970s. Philip began his working life in the textile machinery industry before becoming self-employed, supplying engineering components. Alongside his working life he has given decades to voluntary community service: employed as a part-time youth leader by Bradford Council, and a long-standing volunteer with PHAB (the Physical Handicap and Able Bodied youth movement) serving as club leader, committee member, minibus driver and transport manager. A lifetime of practical community work and a deep knowledge of Queensbury.

  • David James

    Trustee

Former IT Manager with years of experience in project management and operational delivery. An avid DIY enthusiast who brings a practical, hands-on approach to problem solving, a natural fit for the Shed.
